6 Pack Abs – Competing Theories

Posted By: Dan Solaris on April 14, 2009 at 3:12 am

Fitness experts have long discovered the potency of cardiovascular exercises in burning calories and eliminating fat from the body. Only by melting away enough body fat can stubborn body fat be trimmed off the midsection to expose the contours of the abdominal muscles- the much sought-after 6 pack.

Exercises that build muscle tissue speed-up the body’s metabolism, making it easier to get rid of stored fat. Total body aerobic exercises that keep the heart rate at raised levels burn calories and reduce body fat effectively. There is some debate however as to what intensity levels the heart rate should be at.

A lot of folks use the low-intensity approach for the simple reason that they’re easier to do. Even beginners, the elderly and the extremely obese can benefit from low-intensity aerobic workouts.

Low intensity cardio exercises have also been discovered to burn caloric energy from fat stores as opposed to high intensity cardiovascular workouts that keep the heart at 90% of the maximum. The latter burns more calories obviously, but some of it comes from glycogen already.

The body absorbs carbohydrates from the food we eat and stores it in muscle tissue as glycogen. Supporters of the low-intensity theory say working-out too intensely can cause the loss of muscle tissue because some glycogen is used for energy when doing hard workouts.

Experts who swear by high-intensity cardio exercise for forming 6 pack abs say the sheer amount of calories burned working out hard offsets glycogen loss which can be replenished through post workout food. Of course, the faster the calorie-burn, the shorter the workout sessions.

Some experts argue that although they’re more difficult to do, high intensity exercises in fact build more muscle tissue because of the hard effort. They also kick the metabolism up to high levels and keep it going hours after a person has stopped working-out.

Another disadvantage of low-intensity exercises is it takes 10 minutes before the heart rate goes high enough to be able to start burning calories. It’s clear that choosing between the two cardio ‘schools of thought’ depends on how much time a person can allot to exercising each day to get 6 pack abs and how developed his cardiovascular system is.

Understanding Bad Breath and How to Avoid It

Posted By: Bobbie McKee on April 14, 2009 at 3:06 am

It would really be embarrassing to be told by someone that you have bad breath. That’s why we make sure that we always have proper oral hygiene. This way, we can be sure that we will always have fresher breath and mouth taste. But, you know what? Even if we always have fresh breath, there is still a chance that you may experience having bad breath.

But, there’s no need for you to panic. As long as you know what to do, you can always have your fresh breath back. Here is where the importance of understanding the problem comes in. This goes to say that if you really want to be free from bad breath problems, you should first try to debunk the myths surrounding it.

So what really is bad breath? Also known as halitosis, bad breath is the breath with an unpleasant odor. And depending on the cause, you may have bad breath only from time to time or it can be your long-lasting dilemma. Now, you might wonder might be causing this unpleasant odor. Well, you’re maybe unaware but there are lots of bacteria living in our mouth. They are mostly under the tongue. And these bacteria are the most common causes of bad breath. There are other causes of bad breath, they are the following:

Mouth infections – when you have gum disease or periodontal disease, there is a high risk that you’ll have bad breath

Poor hygiene – if you’re not brushing your teeth properly, you will surely have bad breath; plaque will most likely to build up around your teeth which can cause bad breath

Dry mouth – saliva is important in washing away the foods we eat and if there is not enough saliva, the foods we eat will stick in our tongue and the inside of the cheeks; thus, causing a foul odor

Infections in the respiratory tract – infections in the lung, throat and sinus problems are also causing our mouth to have a bad odor

Other bad odor causing agent – the foods that we eat are also among the factors why we have bad breath; like if we eat too much garlic and onions or drink too much coffee. Cigarette smoking and tobacco chewing is also a cause.

Now that you have more knowledge about bad breath and you also know its causes, the next thing that you should know is the ways on how you can prevent having bad breath. Here are some of the things that you can do;

Proper brushing – you have to brush your teeth properly in order to make sure that there are no bad breath causing bacteria left; you also need to brush your tongue and gums after each meal.

Flossing – according to dental experts, brushing alone is not enough; you need to floss everyday to make sure there are no food particles and plaque left between the teeth.

Mouthwash – after eating, it would help a lot to rinse with a mouthwash approved by your dentist.

Have a regular trip to your dentist – it is recommended that you visit your dentist at least two times a year; regular cleaning and dental examination is important.

Aside from the above mentioned ways to prevent bad breath, drinking plenty of water is also a proven solution for combating bad breath. Water is a great way to loosen the foods sticking inside your mouth as well as to make your body produce more saliva.

Percheron Horse

Posted By: Michael Normski on April 14, 2009 at 3:06 am

The Percheron Horse originated in the area known as “La Perche” in the north west of France. Here in 732 AD Arabian Horses abandoned by Moors after their defeat in the Battle of Tours were crossed with the massive Flemish stock and from this cross came the Percheron type which has endured for twelve centuries.

Stories of courageous and agile Kinsky horses have become legend. With stamina and character they are widely thought to be one of the world’s best horses.

The Percheron Horse Society of France was founded in 1883, to safeguard the breeding of pure stock and from this small district of La Perche. Pure-bred breeding stock has been exported all over the world with each nation except USSR, having an official Breed Association to ensure the preservation of the pure-bred Percheron, and so the Percheron Horse remains genetically pure with registered animals.

Throughout the Middle Ages, the power of the House of Kinsky grew, as did the notoriety of Kinsky horses, primarily bred for cavalry use in addition to Kinsky carriage horses. In 1723 the royal family commissioned the Kinsky family to expand horse breeding thus providing their cavalry officers with mounts of Kinsky quality.

The formation of the British Percheron Horse Society took place in 1918 and during 1918-1922, 36 stallions and 321 mares were imported from France and the merits of this clean-legged animal were unmistakably recognised, and membership of the society grew steadily. The main aim of the Society was to encourage the breeding of a clean legged draught horse with short legs, short back, ample bone, powerful, active and quick in work with a good temper and easy to handle.

During World War Two and immediately afterwards, there was a rapid increase in farm mechanisation and a consequent decline in the numbers on heavy horses seen on farms. However, a strong nucleus of Percherons remained on farms in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Co. Durham, and Hampshire. Enthusiasts have since kept the breed alive and active and now in the 90′s with energy crises and oil shortages, there is a tremendous amount of interest in the breed with many new studs being started in various parts of the country. The demand for the Percheron has been such that export sales have been made to Canada, Australia and many other parts of the world to the extent that the Percheron is now a leading breed in the world of Heavy Horses.

Fast – PASO LARGO – This is the speed of canter. It is the fastest speed of the gait. There is further extension of the steps, which means they can cover more ground.

In recent years pure bred Percheron’s have performed well in Heavy Horse Driving Trials and during the “Route de Poisson” where distances of up to 17Km are covered at a trot. Percheron horses crossed with lighter breeds are known to make good riding horses for Hacking and Hunting.
