A lot of cosmetic procedures involve the use of dermal fillers currently. In particular, its applications are primarily aimed toward smoothing out wrinkles on the face and reducing fine lines, providing for younger, healthier looking skin. Of course, this is also used to enhance lips.

Here, Restylane will be briefly examined.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is the trade name for the dermal filler manufactured by the company Q-Med. Hyaluronic acid is a component that is natural compound in skin, and this is what is in Restylane, which is not derived from animals. Restylane filler was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003 to be injected into the skin on the face for cosmetic reasons. Using a fine needle, this clear gel is administered to patients.

The natural component hyaluronic acid is in various tissues in the human body. Its structure is so designed that its presence in tissues in fact contributes to its tightness and firmness. As a result of having this characteristic, evening out and smoothing wrinkles and lines is a perfect application.

Typical Onset of Action for Restylane

The effects of Restylane injections are often seen immediately, though in most cases it can take a week or so to show any benefits. By injecting Restylane under the skin, the hyaluronic acid binds to and holds on to water, which plumps up the skin and the lips.

Approximate Duration of Action

In most cases, 6 months is around the amount of time that one can enjoy the benefits of a Restylane injection. Additional treatments are needed when a patient would like to maintain the smoother appearance of the skin that these treatments result in.

The Advantages of Treatment

Cosmetic improvements that are quite exceptional have been documented in case after case using Restylane treatments. After treatments it is a speedy healing process, and it rarely ever happens to produce many side effects.

Downtime Following Treatment

The minor side effects which sometimes result from treatments with Restylane are the only issues with recovery. The common side effects include bruising at the site of infection, mild redness and occasionally a bit of bleeding. Aspirin or other blood thinners can be a cause of these side effects as well, so if a patient is taking these, there is usually a recommendation to pause for the treatment procedure to happen. These effects can take a few days to resolve, so it is advised not to receive Restylane injections just before a social gathering or important event.

The Competition

The competitors to Restylane that are available on the market are Perlane, Belotero and Juvederm. Restylane and Perlane seem to be the preferred treatments. When treatments of Restylane are administered, the injection stays put, and does not shift around to other parts of the skin like other treatments can, so this is important to note. Furthermore, the microscopic structure between these products is different.

The costs of treatment are comparable depending on who administers the treatment and where it is administered. Each injection could range in price as high as $700, or at times closer to $500.

Treatments of Restylane are one of the more modern ways to enhance skin through cosmetic treatments. Treatments from this are widely enjoyed by patients who are looking for a safe way to enhance the fullness of their skin.
