In designing a home, tile has a lot of practical uses when doing so. Ceramic tiles, which are normally associated with floors and walls of bathrooms are these days commonly used for tiled kitchen counters. Subconsciously, we have associated these types of tiles with the areas which are usually moist. We like to have these places in the home tiled.
These days, more and more people are beginning to realize the value of having the floors in a home tiled. When it’s done right, tiled floor can give a home a sophisticated sort of look that is the same as other pricier types of flooring. It is also a material that has been known to withstand the test of time; there are a few Roman and Greek buildings whose tiled floors have been mostly unharmed even with all the years of neglect.
Plus, another allure that tiles have over other flooring materials like wood is that it’s relatively low maintenance to keep. It is important to keep in mind that these tiles are not place and forget, though. If you neglect your tiles, they will eventually go back to being mundane and dingy. The longer the period of neglect, the harder it will be for you to bring them back to their former glory when you start to clean.
The reason why tiles have a tendency to degrade early is not at all due to the material itself; as I’ve said earlier, they have been known to withstand the test of time. Rather, the grout that binds the tiles together is what turns out to be problematic. It degrades easily, and its porous composition allows foreign particles to seep into it easily. Completely neglected grout would have to be replaced in an expensive procedure called regrouting.
Tiles may very well be the best choice for your home. With the number of tile combinations and colors of grout dye, you will proudly be able to make elegant visual art in your home. But you have to ensure that the tiles and grout are properly maintained. Get in the services of grout cleaners about once every few months to keep the tiles and grout sparkling. That, or watch your home become dulled down in year or two.
